Who?
We require our overseers (elders) and servants (deacons) to affirm this confession as they are held responsible to teach and exemplify the true Christian faith.
Why?
We have adopted this confession because it is one of the best summaries of Christian beliefs written after the revival of the Christian Church following the invention of the printing press, the publication of the Scriptures in their original languages and the languages of the western world. During this re-discovery of the Scriptures much of the theology that has shaped the Church and the World was developed, and we recognize our indebtedness to the work of the believers of that time.
How?
We do not require our overseers to adopt every element of this confession (especially those having to do with its specific historical context and troubles, and some of it’s statements about the nature of baptism).
